More reds and blues....

Red

Don't you love the colour red?  I didn't always love it, in fact when I was a child I abhorred the colour.  I am  a redhead and I hated my hair with such a passion that I couldn't stand anything red or orange.  It wasn't until I was in my 20's that I came to appreciate my hair, possibly because the colour had changed from bright orangey/red to a more acceptable red!  Anyway, this is not about hair, it is about the colour red.  I now can't get enough of it - in decor, clothing, accessories, make-up - you name it.  It is such a happy colour :)

 I love this pic of Zooey Deschanel (I think she is a great actress and singer too, love her quirky style and 500 Days of Summer is an all time fave movie) - the red bicycle (to die for), red shoes and red lipstick!

My sisters beautiful wardrobe

On Saturday afternoon I decided to have a look through some of my sisters beautiful dresses before she moves out.  She has some really gorgeous clothes and a distinctly vintage lean.  I even found a Betsey Johnson dress and a pair of Christian Louboutin heels!

Armchair travel

Its a blustery day again so I think I'm going to light a fire and settle down on the couch and do a bit of armchair traveling!

Marvelous military

I know its spring and I should be focusing on summer fashion, but I'm mad about the whole military look, especially when it involves coats, jackets and boots.  These pictures are beautiful, as are the clothes, by photographer Olivia Graham for Cosmo UK.

Hats off

I love the look of hats but I just can't wear them!  I wish I suited hats but alas, I believe you are either a hat person or you aren't - sadly I am not.  Both my daughters look great in hats, the lucky things - they get that from their dad, he looks great in hats too.  The reason I am thinking of hats is because I got caught in a drizzle this afternoon - not wet enough to use an umbrella but just enough to make your hair go funny - i.e. a hat would have been perfect!  I particularly love bowlers and top hats, I think women look amazing in them.

Living things

Its been a busy week and I have another day ahead of me being holed up in an edit suite but Em and I did manage a brisk walk around Kirstenbosch Gardens yesterday afternoon - sheer bliss!

Here comes summer...

Last night was actually balmy!  It was warm and calm and there was a distinct smell of summer in the air - cut grass, lavender and honeysuckle.  We ate our home made hamburgers outside and Sarah even dabbled her feet in the pool - what bliss!
I did however wake up in a bit if a panic this morning - what am I going to wear?!  I feel decidedly out of shape (all that comfort food has settled very happily in the most obvious places) and in need of some "attention" before I can safely leave home in bare legs and even arms for that matter!  So, as of today it is time to cut down on comfort and get moving!  Walks on the promenade and the common, a visit to the gym 2 or 3 times a week, waxing, scrubbing and moisturizing are all on the cards!

Eat, Pray, Love

I'm so excited that the movie Eat, Pray, Love comes on circuit this week.  I loved the book and I have always been a bit of a Julia Roberts fan, oh and Javier Bardem is pretty good eye candy too, so all in all the movie should be quite a treat!  I don't get to movies as often I would like, not since Nats moved to Hermanus - she was good at roping me into last minute movies when she lived here - but I foresee a bit of a girls night out with this one....

Marvelous Mario

I'm mad about photographer Mario Testino's work and I have just introduced Emma to his website - she is already hooked!  We both love this shoot he did with model Sasha Pivovarova for British Vogue December 2007.

Circus Chic

I just LOVE this fashion shoot by photographer Laspata DeCaro. I'm mad about the fashion, (even though it dates back to 2008, the clothes are still gorgeous!) and the circus theme - there is something quite romantic and a little bit decadent about a circus - although I am dead against performing animals.  Its the colours and decor that I love about them, and the flamboyance and daring of the trapeze artists.  You can view more from the shoot on Fashiontography.
