Inspired by Havana

Ahhh, Friday!  I decided to work from home today as I am hosting a birthday party tea for my mum tomorrow morning and I have lots to make and do!  As I sit here I can hear Emma and Sarah laughing and splashing in the pool and the chickens have discovered their reflection in the glass cabinet next to me and can't stop staring at themselves and pecking at the glass - birdbrains!
Loving the colours and run-down shabby-chicness of the pics of Cuba by Michael Eastman.
Have a fabulous weekend, whatever you are doing xxx

Ever wondered what the Facebook office looks like?  Pretty fabulous for a 'corporate' office environment.

Things I'm loving today

What a brilliant use for a printers tray - a place to keep all your bits of jewelry, hair lulu's and clips, make-up and perfumes!

Weddings

Last night Nats and I sat up till late chatting about all sorts of fabulous things including her soon to be wedding.  Like most girls, I LOVE weddings, and none more so than those of very special friends.  I am not going to reveal any of her secrets just yet, only to say it is going to be nothing less than spectacular.....
I loved my own wedding, it was simple, intimate and beautiful and I wouldn't do it any differently today, except to invite some of the friends I have made since marrying and moving to Cape Town.

Post birthday happiness

I had such a wonderful birthday yesterday :)  So many lovely calls, emails, messages, cards and presents - I was so spoiled.  Now the 'new year' starts for me and I am inspired to make it a great one.  I need to embark on my next simple goal (I have only completed one so far), cross off tasks completed on my never ending to-do list and add new ones and get ready for summer!  Between now and Christmas things get quite crazy so I need to be organised.
Some pics from the weekend.

Happy birthday to me!

Its my birthday today and I have been inundated with phonecalls, sms's and Skype & Facebook messages - wow, I feel so spoiled and loved!  My girls and Danie woke me with gorgeous pressies and showered me with love and kisses so I am having a very happy day!  The next few weeks are crazy in terms of birthdays - at least half my family have birthdays coming up, not to mention a lot of friends too.

Stunning!

With Halloween around the corner I am looking for some dress-up inspiration for Em - poor Sarah will miss trick or treating this year as she has a big dance rehearsal for the Cape Town Tattoo.  I absolutely LOVE these pics by Mario Testino.  Stunning clothes, amazing wigs and beautiful photography - makes me want to dress-up too!

Things to tell my daughters..

I have a nasty habit of waking far too early on a Saturday morning.  I am a morning person so I am not one for lying in bed late on weekends anyway, but I'm talking about waking really early - just at the break of dawn with the first over zealous birds!  It doesn't really bother me but I tend to have an overactive mind at that time of the day and sometimes too much thinking isn't always productive.  Anyway, some of the things I do lie in bed and think of are bits of advice for my girls, just random things that pop into my head - like 'be kind to the elderly' and 'switch off lights when you leave a room and don't waste water' or 'travel to as many destinations as possible'.
I have been told many times before to keep a notebook next to my bed and to write things down - dreams, thoughts, whatever - but who really wants to sit up, put the lights on and write things down when you are all snuggled under the covers!
I intend to be around for long enough for my girls to have to take heed of my first piece of advice (be kind to the elderly), and over the years I will impart my advice as it pops into my head, but I think I am also going to start writing some of it down (not at the crack of dawn however) so that if for any reason I am not close by when they need some sage (or motherly) advice, they can access my "database"!!  When they read this they will no doubt cringe but I know that experience counts for a lot and sometimes you don't have to experience something to learn from it - just ask your mother!

And now for something completely different...some home inspiration.... ;)
